About Uptown Recording
Uptown Recording was born in 1995 in the basement of a three flat in the Chicago neighborhood of Uptown. Uptown, which was a boom town at the turn of the 20th century, was also the heart and soul of the Jazz Age in Chicago.
Today, Uptown is considered one of the last bastions of honest local culture in Chicago, and its music is still thriving just steps from Uptown Recording at mainstays like the Green Mill, the Riviera Theater and the Aragon Ballroom.
In 2001 renovation began transforming a 5,000 square foot electronic repair shop into a state-of-the-art studio. The affordability of real estate in the Uptown neighborhood allowed us to find a space that is simply enormous. Uptown Recording encompasses two large live rooms, three isolation rooms, as well as several amp closets and multi-purpose rooms.
In March of '06 we closed our doors for 8 weeks, while we gave the studio an extreme makeover. From up-to-date technology to all new cherry hardwood floors and trim and a new paint job throughout to a newly tiled kitchenette/washroom to new furniture and a giant television in the lounge, Uptown Recording is even more the place where you can record comfortably.
